IJPC’s Response – Dylan Roof’s Verdict

IJPC is disappointed to learn that Dylan Roof has just been sentenced to death for the shooting deaths of nine innocent members of the Emanuel AME church in Charleston, SC. While Dylan’s actions are indefensible and reprehensible, we hold to our belief that all human life is sacred without condition and that taking the life of one who has taken the life of others serves no purpose other than vengeful retribution. We believe that Dylan Roof should spend the rest of his life growing in understanding of the enormity of his crimes with a life sentence. We also regret the further anguish this execution will cause for some of the victims’ family members who have requested that Dylan not be killed in their name.
